Final expansion for latest Call of Duty launching August 27 on Xbox 360; will include four multiplayer maps and Origins zombie mode.
Activision today announced the final expansion for Call of Duty: Black Ops II, revealing the Apocalypse add-on will release August 27 first on Xbox 360. It is the game’s fourth add-on, following Revolution, Uprising, and Vengeance.
Apolcaypse features four multiplayer maps, two of which–Pod and Frost–are brand new. The other two–Takeoff and Dig–are re-imaginings of maps from the original Black Ops and World at War, respectively.
A new Zombies experience called Origins, which developer Treyarch teased yesterday, is also included with the expansion. It features the Avenged Sevenfold song “Shepherd of Fire” from the band’s upcoming album Hail to the King.
Origins is described as the “most horrifying and imaginative Zombies experience to date.” Players are sent to a Dieselpunk-stylized World War I-era Frannce where they will meet up with the original four heroes from the first Zombies map.
Gamers will find a new arsenal of weapons with supernatural powers, including a diesel-drone and Mark IV tank, as well as a new perk machine and power-ups. As was hinted at in the teaser video, players will also need to evade a 1,000-foot tall robot.
In addition, DC and Marvel comic book artist Alex Ross created original art that features the Zombies as heroes for the Apocalypse content.
The Apocalypse expansion for Black Ops II is included with the $50 DLC pass and will sell for $15 otherwise. The content will release for PC and PlayStation 3 about a month after its original release on August 27.
