Simulators lately have been trending around like they own the place. Surgeon Simulator 2013 is no different. To explain the popularity of these games is simple. Most lets players, or live commentators play obscure games that most do not and in hopes to seem or be original. Which within 5 minutes that turns south. Some of these games being from riding trains, trackers, buses, and horses. The horse bit I can not confirm, but perhaps there Bronies. I got no clue anymore. However for being trendy can the game be good? Well beside light grabbing clipping when you try to pick up certain items like hammers, or the saw. The game is actually pretty decent.

From the introduction of the game, you are greeted by a eighties beat blaring over what seems like a radio, and a desk. To your right is a VHS tape of the splash image of Team Fortress 2’s logo. This is the area where you practice with the controls, or tweak them. On the clip board is where you begin the game by selection each scenario, or operation. After completing each one you then are granted the next. Which trust me, every single one of them are somewhat frustrating, and nerve racking. So in summery, you play a doctor with a broken watch that always seem to slide off. A inside joke to the developers perhaps ha ha. You are given a large selection of tools that you may use to gain access to the part that you need to ether remove, or swap with a new organ for.

Heart surgery was the first course on the menu of rage. Which I am going to say, all you have to do in this game is rip organs out, then toss in whatever organ you need to transplant. That is all. A easy enough task. One thing that is your enemy in this game is the weird controls, and mouse movements. Another is the blood loss your patient may experience if you bump too many organs with a sharp instrument. One complaint I have with this is, how come we can not stick the parts together in the bodies. I remember in games such as Life and Death, where it was a simulation, but was detailed and allowed you to take apart patients based off the cases. Then wipe out blood, or whatever else. Game here.

A few things I am positive that I will state about this game is its original. A little ahead of its time for the concept. While sometimes the controls well pretty decent, other times, I discover my hand getting stuck in a table, or the guys stomach. The soundtrack kicks ass. Upbeat, and catchy. Graphically the game is clean, and beautiful to look at. The detail to the organs, and to the tools you use in the game. Physics in this game are spot on, every thing can ether be dropped on the ground, moved, or interacted with. It toke me about one hundred and fourteen minutes before I have the movements down(as I peeked at my steam game time.)

In Closing:

I enjoyed the game over all. It is frustrating, but once you are able to remove all of the parts out of the way, and you can replenish a brain, a heart, or two kidneys, you soon become satisfied that you have done this task. I think the main selling point to this game besides tons of you tube commentators use it as footage, or the fact it is genuinely fun once you get the learning curve. As well as patience to handle the control set up. I think it is fun and best played if you have a friend over and want to spend a few hours doing silly crap together with the tools provided. While I did feel annoyed with the hand movement (which is controlled with your mouse and LMB+RMB to lower your hand, and twist your wrist). The game has a sense of a arcade feel as you are graded after performance. The less blood you spelt the higher your grade, as well as time. Which as some replay ability.  This is a must have if you want to try something new.
