According to the rumor mill, Google and Motorola have a brand new device in the works that should see the light of day soon. Not everything they cook up is going to be flashy, though, so don’t confuse this with the X Phone. This mystery device has been internally coded the DVX, which is slated to be an extremely cheap device aimed at emerging markets. Unfortunately, that means no Snapdragon 800 CPU with a 4k screen, but this is still an excellent strategy for Google.

Google has pushing for decent specs on phones to be able to sell them at extremely affordable prices to consumers, which we’ve seen with the Nexus 4. It’s an excellent phone, but it isn’t ground-breaking as far as technology is concerned. By making an even cheaper phone, such as this DVX with Motorola, they’ll be able to price this extremely low to get smartphones in the hands of consumers in places where smartphones aren’t so common. The more people that have smartphones and internet access, the more people are going to bring in money through Google’s ad services. It’s a win-win situation.

There aren’t any definitive specs for the DVX, but as soon as anything pops up, we’ll let you know.
