[UPDATE] Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida says Sony will talk about long-in-development adventure game “when we are ready to do so”; game now on hiatus.

[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, Sony executive Jack Tretton said on Spike TV (via Kotaku) that The Last Guardian is on hiatus.

The original story follows below.

The Last Guardian remains in development, but Sony is not yet willing to discuss when the game will be released or how it is progressing.

Speaking with GameSpot last night, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said, “We will talk about The Last Guardian when we are ready to do so.”

Pressed for a specific time frame for release, Yoshida confirmed only that the game “is still in development.”

A listing for The Last Guardian appeared on the official E3 website last week, though Sony called this “purely speculative.”

The Last Guardian has made “slow progress” for years. Sony senior vice president of product development Scott Rohde said during E3 2012 that the game will ship “when it is absolutely ready.” He also said Sony has no deadline whatsoever for the game.

Most recently, The Last Guardian creative director Fumito Ueda told gamers to “keep an eye out” for an official announcement on the game from Sony.

The Last Guardian was formally announced at the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo.
