Capcom recently announced that it would be resurrecting the franchise with a new title called Onimusha Soul. The downside? It’s a browser based RPG that has only been confirmed for Japan. The game will be released on June 28, 2012, and a version for smartphones will be available sometime in the Fall. Like most browser based games, it will be free to play but it will use a micro transaction system, meaning you will be able to purchase items with real money.

Onimusha Soul will be a strategy RPG with characters from the original Playstation 2 series. The game will feature an original story where you play as one of the feudal lords from one of the warring states. You will grow your army and your respective states by fighting with other players. Capcom also announced that the game will have social and community elements. You can check out the official site here.

While it’s not uncommon for some of these browser based games to make their way to the US, it’s usually not until years after the game has been available overseas. I can only hope that if there is enough interest in this particular title, Capcom will bring it over to the US or maybe even make a new Onimusha game for consoles.
