Portal 2 Authoring Tools

Valve has released the beta version of the Portal 2 Authoring Tools today which is not some half-assed tool kit. It includes “versions of the same tools we used to make Portal 2.” With them, you can create just about anything you want for Portal 2 — maps for single-player and co-op, character skins, 3D models, sound effects, and music.

More specifically, the Authoring Tools include updated versions of Hammer, Faceposer, and a “suite of command-line compiling utilities,” in addition to examples that should help you to build your own devious test chambers.

The tools are now available to anyone who owns the PC version of Portal 2. To access them, simply go to the “Tools” tab in Steam and you’ll be able to begin doing your best impersonation of GLaDOS.
