**A Special Thank You to Roxio for providing the demo unit. DanVanDam did not receive any financial compensation for this review.**
On the market today you have a huge selection of video game capture devices on the market, to come to no small surprise, some work quite well, others fall short and glitch out on you, leaving you strained and stressed out, hating putting effort and compassion towards narrations or whatever else you wish to do. The Roxio Game Capture device is a most interesting approach for entry level for most who want to take it to that level of good quality and clear sound. Now to be frank and clear the device captures in 480p, which is fine, due to most gamers want their game in a high quality and be able to see and make out what is going on in their game while they ether show off, or need to see keen detail. This device may not record in true 1080p but that is not the point of this product. Now for a blunt warning this device does not use AV cables and only component cables from: Wii, Ps3, and Xbox360 only. Here today I will discuss the hardware and how well it works and the software featured inside of this tight little 100 dollar package.
The Device – When we received the demo/ retail model the packaging was quite interesting as you seen a abstract picture of a Halo like space marine on the paper insert of the plastic. The device itself is propped up like a display piece. We had some difficulty opening the device, once out everything began to instantly make practical sense with where goes what, etc etc. The set up and install was a breeze on both of our PCs as all you have to do is install the software first. Then plug in the Game Capture in second. Now at first our minds were set to “Ree Ree” mode, and forgot to set our console to 1080i and seen a distorted screen raising our fists up and cussing out-loud and banging our hairy chests in rage. Then our primitive side said to us “hey dummy, set it to 1080i!” and there you go. The built quality is well placed together and constructed firm on our model. everything is straight forward and any gamer can get used to this.
Now a Major problem most people have is “will the device over heat?” No, we have tested it for hours leaving it on burning away, did not over heat once, to be advised for those with extremely hot homes, its common sense make sure cold air is on the device, your consoles and yourself at all times to prevent any overheating period(if might happen).
Also included are spare component
The Software: very simple to install and did not give us a once of problems, one thing to note , please have the required specs located on the box or higher in order to use this device at a solid rate. We tested this on a personal home computer.
The specs were:
MS Windows XP Home SP3
Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 240GHz,
2.0GB RAM,
Nvidia 8300 GS.
As well as a Gaming PC was used, both passed 100%

The editing software is your typical set up, allows you to upload to Youtube, edit, crop, slow down, speed up, add photo/Video. The works. Nothing over the top. But for those who paid 100 Dollars or so on this device is pretty good. It allows you to Capture your console, with smooth success. Granted The Roxio Game Capture can work on any capturing software too, like Pinnacle. While this software might confuse some newbies to the market, be warned, mostly all software will scare you, get used to it, learn it, become the master of your domain.
Closing Comments:
While the software is fairly up to the standards of typical editing software on the market, its safe to say it works, it does not have all the bells and whistles like the top of the line editing software out today. It works well, I have not found a issue that would case me to assume to avoid it, just be advised it is fair to say while its solid you can use the device with other things out there with a smooth transaction. The video results are pretty fantastic and work up to great standard and if your looking for a device to just record your lets plays, or even your FPS shot-a-bouts with sharp visuals this capture card is for you for a 100 dollar price price tag, granted most will try to say stick to a “EZcap” but the thing is unstable never works perfectly, and not quality checked before shipped. If you want to go that one step higher with your video editing and follow in the trend of commentaries, a fantastic new generation capture device if you use component cables and not HDMI. If you want HDMI support, I suggest other market ones out there unless you use a converter, then carry on haha. Granted the device does not carry out super high end Video quality, I consider it a straight forward approach towards a investment in those young and new video makers out there. If you can not afford some 500 dollar device, this is up there for too buys. Due to what others say of this device only being 480p, think of it this way most of those games you play on consoles Are 480 to 720p to reduce frame rate issues and make sure it all runs smoothly in your living room.
