The Nintendo 3DS launched in Australia on Thursday, March 31, finding 31,000 eager owners over the following four days and establishing a launch week sales record for handhelds in the region. (The Wii currently wears the console crown for single week sales in the country, with a record of 32,000 units sold during its debut.)

Australia’s launch numbers, of course, pale in comparison to the impact made by the 3DS in North America. According to the most recent NPD figures, the 3DS sold over 370,000 units in its first seven days of availability. That’s about 1.1 million Ds!
