Burnout Crash outed by Aussie ratings board
Down Under classification organization reveals Electronic Arts is preparing new multiplatform auto-racer title.
The most recent Burnout game–Burnout Paradise–debuted in 2008 to solid reviews. Series developer Criterion Games was then tasked with development of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, which shipped late last year to a similarly warm reception.
Now, a new Burnout game appears to be coming. The Australian Classification Board has rated a title called “Burnout Crash.” The game will be multiplatform, according to the April 1 filing by publisher Electronic Arts. Unfortunately, the filing offers little other detail on the project.
If Criterion returns to development duties on Crash, it would come with little surprise.
In November, EA senior VP of first-person shooter and racing games said, “Obviously [Criterion] is a brilliant studio we’re going to put against something that makes sense for EA and them
I hope to see more Burnout games in the future. But it’s about prioritizing what we want to do. At this point, we haven’t made a decision to whether Burnout does this or that, but it’s not dead for sure, no.”
