Reports from European trade bodies UKIE and GFK Chart-Track (via Gamasutra) indicate that last week’s U.K. videogame sales numbers topped the all-time record in the region, thanks in part to the dueling launches of Microsoft’s Kinect and Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Overall revenue for the week soared to £113.8 million (nearly $183 million) in the U.K. during the week ending November 12. That’s the single largest week for gaming since the end of 2008, when the U.K. games industry raked in £107.6 million ($172.9 million) during the final week of the year.
Initial sales of Activision’s latest Call of Duty accounted for £81.9 million ($131.6 million) of the £113.8 million total, or roughly 72 percent of gaming income in the U.K. last week. And while Microsoft has yet to disclose sales numbers for Kinect and its launch lineup, GFK Chart-Track notes that Kinect Sports landed in fourth place on its Top 40 list for November 7 through 13. Furthermore, eight of the 11 Kinect games available last week also made the chart, with heavy hitters like Dance Central and Motion Sports climbing to number 13 and 15, respectively.
