The Following game “Havendock” was provided to me for free by the developers and publishers. Therefore I would like to thank the developer/publisher for providing a free copy of the game to play on my stream.
The following Gameplay Footage is an early access version of the game. Therefore, the footage you see may or may not be featured in the final version of the game, also there may be some noticeable bugs in the game.
Havendock is a pleasant colony sim in which you create a safe haven for castaways, manage resources, and live your best life on the sea. Transform your rustic village into a high-tech society.
I first discovered Havendock in March of this year and immediately fell in love with it. So when the developers/publishers decided to give me a copy of the game to play for this review, I was ecstatic. Because the game is still in early access, what you see in the gameplay video above may or may not be included in the full version. One of the things I liked best about the game is that it still has a demo, and whatever you do in the demo is carried over into the full version. If you’re not sure if you like the game genre, check the demo first.
The keyboard and mouse are used to play the game. You can move your character with WASD or, if you want, there is an option in the options menu to set up a move with the mouse. Moving using only the mouse seemed unusual to me, as it is a click-and-then-move setup. Personally, I’d prefer to be able to move my character around by holding down the left mouse button rather than simply clicking where the character can go. The click-and-go method just seems a little more time-consuming in my opinion.
As previously said, this is a Colony Farming Sim, therefore you are constructing a colony. That means, in addition to keeping an eye on your hunger and thirst, you must also keep your settlers pleased. According to what I’ve seen so far in the game, there doesn’t appear to be a penalty for the settlers being dissatisfied. The only difference is that you may hear them say they are dissatisfied, so you must supply things that will make them happy, such as a bar or a dance floor, to name a few.
The majority of the game is trial and error, and as you play it more frequently, you’ll come to learn more about your Colony and what works best for you. I’ve been playing with the colony I built during the demo, but now that I’ve gained some perspective on the game, I’m thinking about beginning over.
They’ve added a new system where you can assign your settlers to specific occupations and prioritize where they carry particular resources, and that is another reason why I want to start anew. Additionally, my colony needs to be reorganized because it is currently disorganized. Therefore, if I don’t start over, I’ll have to reorganize everything and put it back together. The main character could also be quite customized when I played the demo, and I’d want to see if they’ve added any more customizations.
Overall, Havendock has a bright future ahead of it and is a blast to play. Give Havendock a try if you enjoy colony simulations and farming sims, in my opinion. It is one of those sims games that will keep you occupied for a while. You can get Havendock on PC on Steam for $16.99 USD if you want to play it for yourself. Remember that the game is in Early Access, so you are paying for it in its current form with the expectation that the devs will keep working on it and release it in its entirety.
