The individual components that make up Microsoft’s $150 motion-sensing Kinect peripheral may cost the company as little as $56 per unit.
According to a breakdown by UBM TechInsights (as reported by EE Times), about $17 in parts is attributed to the PrimeSense reference system, which includes the cameras, microphones, and central processor. The rest is spread among various components that include a camera interface controller, RAM chips, additional processors, the USB ports, and the casing itself.
