I love playing survival games, so when I noticed the Above Snakes developer tweeting about their game, I knew I had to try it out for myself. Let me say that the game does not let me down, and I am eagerly awaiting the release of the whole game.
You awaken in a ruined hamlet in the prologue of Above Snakes and aid the survivors in rebuilding it. After then, use world pieces to extend it, then craft, cultivate, hunt, build a base, and engage in combat to learn more about what transpired.
The game’s story is interesting, and it immediately pulled me in. I also appreciate how easily accessible the game is. You can, for instance, disable screen shake and flashing lights and customize the gameplay to your preferences. You have the option of playing the game using a controller or keyboard and mouse, but since I usually play survival games with a keyboard and mouse, that is how I choose to play this one. But I truly like that they gave the game controller support as well.
Another feature of the game that truly appeals to me is the freedom to design the world whatever you desire, which sets it apart from other survival games I’ve played in the past. In contrast to most survival games where you can go to specific biomes, Above Snakes lets, you create your own biomes using a mapping table. I think that’s a very novel feature.
Overall, if you enjoy survival sandbox games, I strongly advise you to test Above Snakes: Prologue before adding the Full Game to your wishlist. You may currently play Above Snakes: Prologue for free on PC using Steam if you choose to do so. On May 25, 2023, the whole game Above Snakes will be available for purchase through Steam.
