Book of Demons: HELLCARD looks Promising before its Q1 2023 Release Date

Hellcard is a cooperative single-player and multiplayer roguelike deck builder. Enter the paper dungeons, find computer-controlled allies, or team up with other players in quick-fire card combat against the armies of evil and the Archdemon.

I’ve played HELLCARD’s debut title, Book of Demons, and I can say that things are looking up. The fact that you may play three different characters is one of the main aspects of HELLCARD that I found to be distinctive and enjoyable. The character you select and two other characters you acquire via gameplay.
The game has a multiplayer mode. However, because the game is still in BETA and there might not have been other players to play with, I did not demonstrate the multiplayer feature. I appreciate the fact that you can play the multiplayer component of the game while playing alone.

The only downfall is that with the other characters you acquire you only get to use two cards instead of getting a spread like with your main character. However, this works to your advantage as you can plan your moves ahead of time and you get to control them instead of AI just doing the work for you. So I really do like that feature of the game. I also enjoy the map system. I appreciate that you have to choose between two variations of the floor you’re on and that it isn’t the traditional maps that you find in most Roguelike games. So you are again able to plan accordingly to your play style.

Another cool feature of the game is that it appears that if you never played Book of Demons that the game does give you a copy of that game as well, so you can enjoy it. Keep in mind Book of Demons is a single-player roguelike game. However, it’s still quite fun and a game you can get lost in for hours.

If I have any complaints it would be that the enemy base is not scaled to my liking. I went from the first floor which had like four enemies, to floors that had as many as ten enemies and that was by floor four. So I would suggest scaling the floors a bit better so it’s not overwhelming so quickly. Other than that the game is a lot of fun and I highly recommend checking this one out when it releases in Q1 2023.
