The sequel to Draw Distance’s single-player stealth action game Serial Cleaner, a sleek 2D game where you clean up crime scenes covertly, is called Serial Cleaners. Whereas the original provides a more conventional top-down view in which you must avoid catching the eye of police officers by evading cones of vision, Serial Cleaners adds a variety of characters and skills to the mix along with a visual upgrade that improves more than just the appearance. Making the act of disposing of evidence an exciting activity makes it a perfect game to play in spurts.
The tale unfolds over the course of one evening as the four cleaners recall their past, including how they first got into the industry and their most dangerous clean-ups. The plot is divided into five chapters and advances as each cleaner receives their own task in each act, occasionally joined by additional cleaners. After being thrown into so many awkward circumstances with no one to turn to except each other, the player starts to understand the strange, almost familial affinity these cleaners have with one another as the tales eventually begin to intertwine. We occasionally get a little view into the cleaners’ personal lives, and all of these glimpses reveal the sad events that contributed to the cleaners’ current, fairly unstable, mental situations.
Overall, solid blast from start to finish, the dialog is witty, charming, and over the top, in a good way.
