When I first played Minion Masters I didn’t realize how much I was actually going to enjoy the game. Where I am a huge fan of deck building games, tower defense games aren’t usually my go-to game. However, that changed when I began to play Minion Masters, a deck-building game that allows you to select from twelve Minion Masters who control and direct other minions to do their bidding. However, before I go further into my review of the game I’d like to thank Betadwarf for providing us here at thedailygamepad.net with free codes to use for review. It is due to their generosity and kindness that I am able to write this review.

As stated before Minon Masters is a deck-building tower defense game in which you can play against others online in a 1v1 or 2v2 match. You get to select between 11 Minor Master with a twelfth master coming soon. The Masters you get to select from are as follows: Stormbringer, Volco, Mordar, Ravager, Ratbo, King Puff, Apep, Settsu, Milloween, Diona, Milloween, Dawn Marshall Valorian. I usually spend my times playing majority 1v1 or 2v2 if I am playing along with DanVanDam. I tend to favorite playing as Ratbo, King Puff or Milloween and am learning how to play with the other masters. Each master does give you hints on how to play them, it’s just more so about building the proper deck for each master. You can also choose to ignore the hints and simply just build your own deck how you see fit, but again the hints are there to give you some guidance. I say this because for example I played Settsu and built a deck for her based on the hint it gave and it didn’t work well for me. So I ran Settsu again with the deck I use for Milloween and I did very well, so deck-building is key.

In addition to online games there are some adventure paths you can play to score additional cards, but most of the games mode are 1v1 or 2v2. As I said I have been an avid player of Minion Masters since the game first came out to PC. I loved the game so much that when my PC was going through it’s issues with not loading certain games, I played the game on XBOX One and purchased the Minion Master’s pack which grants you all 12 masters. Then I came back to the PC version once my PC was working again.

I notice a huge difference from playing on PC than on Xbox One. First, it should be noted that the game is cross-platform so from time to time you will play against players from XBOX One, but the majority of the time you will play against PC players and this is where sometimes the issues come in. I happen to really enjoy 2v2. However, I only play with DanVanDam on PC because when I came back to PC you had players deserting the game at the start of the game or sometimes before the game was over. Now, I know some will say well if I am losing I am just going to rage quit or maybe there was an internet issue. However, I have played in games where my team’s tower has been at 30 HP and we have still won the match. However, if your teammate leaves now it’s 2v1 and that puts you at a disadvantage because you’re now covering both lanes against two players, but sadly your mana does not fill up fast enough to accommodate that. So I feel that if a player exits the game before the game ends and doesn’t come back (because yes sometimes internet things happen) but if they are a true deserter their account should be banned or suspended for a small period of time or at least there should be a way to report a player for abandoning a game and if they are report so many times as a deserter then they get banned. Now, some may argue that people may abuse this, but this is where the replays of the game come into play.  Since the game does replays it should show if a player has abandoned the game and if it’s proven they have and that account logs on they are banned for a short amount of time. It would hopefully stop the deserters from deserting in return that if a person tried to report a player for abandoning the game and they did then the accuser should be banned. Again this is just something I’ve been thinking about.

Another big issue that I have encountered while playing 2V2 is really bad lag. At first I thought maybe one of the players had a bad internet connection. However, I have noticed that whenever DanVanDam and I are winning, we get hit with a huge lag spike and once the spike ends we are now being over flooded by the other teams minions. This just can’t be a coincidence. This happens so frequently that to offset being overwhelmed by the other team I made a deck that is low end cards. During the day and mid day it’s fairly fair play but at night the amount of deserters and lag spikes are crazy. Again not sure if this is maybe the servers are over populated or if again people are doing extra things to cause the spikes.

Overall, with those things aside the game is still a lot of fun and I still find myself playing it every day if not every other day. If you would like to play Minion Masters for yourself you can download the game via Steam or Xbox One and if you want all of the Masters you can buy the all masters pack for $19.99 USD.
