Developed by Lazurite Games  and published by Deck13  To Hell with Hell is an indie action game that is coming to Early Access on Steam on July 19. When I first got to see the trailer from To Hell with Hell, I was intrigued by the game because it reminded me of other games I have played in the past, and I thought it would be like a twin stick shooter. I do like a good twin stick shooter, and the name of the game made me really want to give the game a go. I would like to thank Deck13 and Lazurite Games, for providing me with a free copy of the game, so that I could play it for this review.

In To Hell with Hell, Asmodius,  a demon who has ruled over Hell since the beginning of time, has been dethrone by Shaks, another demon who has not agreed with his way of doing things. Asmodius fearing that he would lose his throne has already been preparing  for this exact moment, by having multiple children with mortal women, across different planets, who has powers that can awaken at any moment. You take on the role of one of Asmodius’ children Natasia, who was just minding her own business, when she is summoned to Hell by Asmodius to save him. She is not at all happy, as he hasn’t been in her life. In fact, the game pokes fun at this in the beginning when Asmodius tells Natasia, that he is her father and Natasia responds with “My Father? Then what’s my name” and he does not have an answer. I mean in Asmodius’ defense he pretty much only had his children to help him out when the time arises, perhaps he will remember her name if she saves him.

In the game you acquire different masks as well as guns to fight your way through Hell. You must kill all the demons, and travel through portals until you reach Shaks. Each mask offers different abilities, you get a main ability and then a secondary ability. Some allows you to become a knight, and one is even a hockey mask just to name a few. After a few times of getting hit; you do end up losing the mask and then go back into being Natasia’s mortal form only. I will admit that when this game comes to difficulty, it is difficult. I did struggle with the game a little bit, even after being on what the game dubbed its easy mode. In fact, after a recent update the game itself tells you that it is hard and there are going to be parts you are going to get stuck on. The fact that the game tells you this but offers what is leading to be an easy mode is a little contradicting to me. I have not been able to get through the first mode. Now, I know most of you must be thinking that I am going to say they should have a for real easy mode. In all honesty, I am okay with the contradicting that has been caused. Mainly, because I went into the game thinking that I could take the game lightly and let me tell you now that you cannot.

Keep in mind that when you are playing this game that this is an Early Access game. So, what this means is that there are going to be some things that need to be tweaked and worked on. One of those things are the controls. You can play both with keyboard/mouse or controller. The first time I played To Hell with Hell, I felt that the controls were a little stiff to me for a bullet hell. Also, I found it a little awkward that the firing button was the Right Trigger button. There was a part of me that wanted the fire button to be the right analog stick, instead it allows for you to aim the cursor, which I will admit that I found the aim cursor to be a little bit distracting. Therefore, I would like a feature to turn the aim cursor off and on. I also played the game with keyboard and mouse, and the controls the first time I played were a little stiff. Since they recently did an update, I can say that the controls have gotten a bit better. They are not as stiff as the were the first time I played it. I think, another good feature would be to add sensitivity to the games options. That way the player can adjust the sensitivity of the controls to their liking.

If you enjoy collecting achievements, you will be happy to know that To Hell with Hell has a total of thirty-five different achievements to collect. I can honestly say that if you are looking for a challenging game to gather achievements from, then To Hell with Hell is a great contender for that. On the flip side of the coin, To Hell with Hell does not offer any trading cards yet. I could imagine that down the line they might add them because I could see people wanting to collect a Natasia trading card.

Overall, I hope that To Hell with Hell has a successful run in its Early Access state and I do recommend picking up the game, as buying the game in Early Access helps the developers to put more into the game. I am hoping that the game is successful on Steam because I would love to see if ported onto to consoles in the future. I think console players would also get a kick out of the game, and I could see a lot of console players wanting to play this as well. If you would like to support To Hell with Hell, you can do so by purchasing the game on Steam for $16.99 USD.
