Kadokawa Games is a Japanese publisher founded in April 2009 after the merging of several smaller outfits within media conglomerate Kadokawa Shoten. None of their stuff has really been of note yet to non-Japanese — they’ve produced an RPG Maker port for the Nintendo DS and a couple of forgettable girl-y anime adventures — but that’s going to change very soon, with new president Yoshimi Yasuda announcing two new projects today that’re being looked over by Goichi Suda’s Grasshopper Manufacture and Yuji Naka’s Prope.
“I first met Naka twenty years ago because I was writing a column for a game magazine just as the first Sonic the Hedgehog was released,” Yasuda told Famitsu magazine. “It’s funny to think I’m getting a chance to work with him again after all that time, definitely.”
Yasuda, who joined Kadokawa after heading up Tecmo for a while, is not talking details on either of the games yet, simply stating that Prope’s title will be in the action genre. “Naka’s title is something that I’ve been hoping to see for a while now,” he said. “The man behind Sonic and Nights is trying his hand at a new action title for us, and I think that’s really important not just for us, but for the game industry as a whole.”
