A few months ago, we posted footage of Eric Ruth’s 8-bit demake of DJ Hero, featuring chiptuned versions of some of the games tracks. Universal Music Publishing apparently caught wind of the project though; stepping in to issue a cease and desist.

PikiGeek posted word of the cease and desist today, along with some of the correspondence between Ruth and the Universal Music Group. Ruth was blunt in his reaction to what he called a “dick move.”

“In fact, the game may even be helping to sell some copies of music, which of course, benefits you in the end,” he wrote. “Anyhow, I’ve used other ‘copyrighted’ material in the past and have gotten no flack from it. This is the first time a C&D has ever reached my desk, and while I will honor it, I will also be honest with you about how I feel in regards to it. ‘It blows.’ If there was ever an example of “we have money, and you don’t, so f*ck you’, this is it.”
