Video
games can be many things to many people, so the idea of proclaiming a
single one as the best of 2012 strikes us as a little limiting. This
year, instead of screaming at each other for hours in a sweaty,
smoke-filled room until we emerge with a handful of winners, your
friends at 1UP have decided to forsake categorization and write about the
experiences that brought us the most enjoyment this year
— and that’s the point of playing video games, isn’t it?
Jeremy:
The games industry has dealt us some sad stories in 2012, but can any
compare to the wretched failure of the PlayStation Vita? Sony delivered
the most impressive piece of dedicated portable gaming hardware in
history, then promptly sent it into a tailspin with no apparent
strategy and little original software of note. The Vita makes for an
amazing way to play PSP and PS1 games (at least the ones it supports,
anyway), but in terms of original Vita content the pickings are slim…
and the market’s lukewarm reaction means we’re increasingly unlikely to
see that trend turn around.
