Mobile Games….What can truly be said about mobile games? You either like them or you don’t. Of course, there is the major debate of rather or not mobile gaming is considered an actual form of gaming. However, the purpose of this article is not to bring up the age-old debate on rather or not if it’s considered a legit way of gaming. The fact of the matter is during this time; mobile gaming may be all that someone has to escape what is going on nowadays. So if you haven’t tried mobile gaming or maybe you are new to mobile gaming here are a few games that I have come across that may change your mind, and outlook on mobile gaming.

Disclaimer: Most of the games featured in this list are from Google Play or Apple App Store, as the Amazon app store does not feature a lot of the games on my list.

Sweet Dance

For those who enjoy rhythm music games, Sweet Dance is a mobile game that simply can’t be overlooked. You get to make your own avatar and even join a dance crew —once you reached the corresponding level–. The game features all types of different music and offers up to four different modes to play. It’s basically Dance Dance Revolution for your fingers, and the music selections aren’t bad at all. Just like any traditional Dance Dance Revolution game, you have to play through the songs in order to open up other songs, but the game proves to be fun and unlike some other games there is no waiting for energy to be restored, providing you with hours of fun.

Harvest Town

For those of you who are into Stardew Valley, but are unable to actually purchase Stardew Valley, Harvest Town is a pretty good alternative to it. Harvest Town puts you in the shoes of a hero/heroine who wishes to turn the clock back to simpler times in which it actually happens. You are then left with caring for the farm you once use to care for, before leaving the town to head into the city. The game provides the same relaxing feels of Stardew Valley and seems to be the best alternative to Stardew Valley that I have seen thus far.

BitLife – Life Simulator

WARNING: This game does contain some subject matters that may be sensitive to some players. So Players’ discretion is advised.

For those of you who want to live in someone else shoes, may I introduce to you BitLife – Life Simulator? BitLife – Life Simulator is a text-based simulation game in which you are giving a random life to lead, and then make choices for that person. At first, it seems a little boring, but before you know it you’ve gone through several lives. I once had a character live to 410 years old. So depending on how you play your character can live for a long time or not very long.

Also, as a WARNING, the game does touch on some subjects that may be sensitive to players. Depending on how you play events can pop up such as you catching COVID-19, or even committing suicide. So if these are subjects you wish to avoid then I would not recommend this game. The game is free but comes with Ads, but if you want to get rid of the ads you can pay to have them removed. Removing the ads also give you other perks, such as continuing your legacy, things for your school life, etc.

Soda Dungeon

Some of you may be familiar with Soda Dungeon being free to play on Steam, but what you may not be aware of is the game is also available on mobile devices as well. It actually plays and holds up very well on the mobile device. For those of you who are not familiar with Soda Dungeon, Soda Dungeon is an RPG adventure where you help fix up a local tavern, in order to attract adventurers to the tavern so that you can go into the dungeon and fight baddies to gain riches. Using your riches to fix up the tavern, and even adding more soda to bring other adventurers. The game can play with you controlling the characters or even through auto if you just want to watch the characters battle it out. You can control up to five adventurers at one time, so choose wisely as some adventurers do cost you money.

Cooking Mama: Let’s Cook!

Better than Mama!!! Cooking Mama comes to mobile in this delightful mobile game called Cooking Mama: Let’s Cook! It’s pretty much the same traditional cooking mama that you might remember from the days of the Nintendo Wii, but has some extras thrown in there, such as running a farm, a restaurant, and even fishing just to name a few.

The core game is free and there is an option to turn off the ads. I was able to turn off the ads for the game but was not asked to pay anything, but I can’t remember if this was because I purchased it a while back. The game comes with some standard recipes and the options to purchase more recipes in packs. If you don’t want to spend your money on packs for the game you can also log in every day and score recipes that way. Although it says a daily login, I have logged in a day or two later and still get credit for the login. So it may have switch to just simply logging into the app.

Lophis Roguelike – Card RPG Game

Lophis roguelike – darkness game on Apple App Store

I will admit I love card deck-building games or card games that make you get your Yugi Yami on and believe in the heart of the cards. Lophis Roguelike – Card RPG Game (Lophis roguelike – darkness game as it is called on Apple App Store) is made in the style of Darkest Dungeon but has that Slay the Spire feel to it.

You are on a quest to become the strongest swordsman after your master and leader gets beaten in an epic battle against an opponent who seems to be the best swordsman. The game plays a lot like Slay the Spire you don’t exactly get to build your deck before hand, but get cards added to your deck as you go on. You also, get to choose which path you will take. Card deck building games are a great way to past the time, and this is one of those games close to Slay the Spire. At one point and time, it seemed like the game had to be paid for, but it looks like the game is (at least now) free to play.

Great Alchemy

Alchemy 1000 on Apple App Store

For those who don’t want to do much, but still want to pass the time and have a knack for science; Great Alchemy (Alchemy 1000 on Apple App Store) is the game for you. In Great Alchemy, you start off with the four basic elements Fire, Air, Water, Earth and then you combine them to get other elements. You then take those elements and repeat the process and create more items. Basically, that is all you do in the game. There are at least 495 different things that can be found. So this game can keep you entertained for quite a while. The game does have ads at the bottom of the game, but the game is still pretty fun and it is exciting to find new elements.

The Greedy Cave

The Greedy Cave is a rogue-lite dungeon crawler game. You play a hero who is sent into a dungeon in which an adventurer has disappeared. Rumors have circulated saying he came across a legendary treasure and was teleported to a different world. You then are sent into this same dungeon to see if the rumors are true. The game is quite fun, as you get to fight creatures. Moving in the game is done by pushing where you want your character to go or having the game’s overlay displayed controls. You get to equip your character with different items, and overall The Greedy Cave is a great rogue-lite dungeon crawler game. I played it for a few hours and really enjoyed it.

Miya’s Everyday Joy Of Cooking

Miya’s Everyday Joy of Cooking is a game that’s based on the webtoon by omyo entitled Joy of Cooking. I know what you are saying a puzzle game? However, I choose this game because the art style caught my eye, and as an avid reader of webtoons, I wanted to feature the game. In the game, you gather ingredients by touching on three or more of the same ingredients. The game does feature comic cutscenes to enjoy as well, so not only are you getting a game, but you are also getting a comic as well.

The music for the game is pretty chill, you have the option to change the views and go to different parts of the house but it does cost coins to open them up which you get from completing levels. You also get credit cards (currency in the game) from completing the levels and have the option to double those by watching ads. Overall, the game is very relaxing and I recommend it.

Night of the Full Moon

Night of the Full Moon is another card deck-building game that goes a little more like Slay the Spire, but without the map. You get to play as Little Red Riding Hood who is looking for her grandmother. Little Red can take on the following classes in the free version Knight, Ranger (must be unlocked via gameplay), Nun (must be unlocked via gameplay), and a Witch (must be unlocked via gameplay). In addition, there are four other classes she can play as but they must be purchased. Those classes are magician, apothecary, werewolf, and soul hunter.

The game also offers two modes Normal and Hard I. You then fight your way through creatures by using cards. The game does not feature a map progression like Slay the Spire, your progression pops up on three cards and you select the card you want to go after to progress the game, they can be a monster, treasure or even a store where you can purchase more cards to add to your deck. I thought this was an interesting mechanic to the game, as it isn’t something I have seen previously in deck-building games.

If deck-building games are something you are into, this is one you should also look into.

Postknight

RSIG stands for Ready Set Indie Games which is the other name that GeekyGamerGirl87 goes by.

Have you ever wanted to be a postal worker and a knight at the same time? Well now you can, in Postknight, you play a knight who delivers packages who is currently trying to become an official postknight. Your postknight is assigned to deliver packages to a town where it’s occupants have fled the town due to rumors of a dragon coming to destroy the town. If you want to become an official postknight you must find the occupants of the town, by going on a quest to locate them.

One of the interesting things about Postknight is that it isn’t all the way an automatic game. Although, the postknight moves automatically you do have to actually fight, block and heal your postknight yourself. Failing to do so can get the postknight killed. The graphics reminded me of Scribblenauts which has always been one of my favorite games. You open up the characters such as a blacksmith, potion maker, and merchant to name a few. I did have fun with the game overall.

Fishing Paradiso

The last game on the list is a fishing simulation game called Fishing Paradiso. Now I know that fishing simulation games are not for everyone. I will admit even I was a little hesitant to try it because I am not big on fishing simulators, but the pixel graphics is actually what drew me into the game.

In Fishing Paradiso you play as a young man who has died and gone to heaven. Before going to your island in heaven you are greeted by a mysterious whale-like creature who asks you to come and find them. You then end up on an island with a bird who at times becomes annoying, but is there for companionship, and tells you how to fish.

Once you learn the basics of the how the fishing works which is simple you then can take requests for order via your sky phone, a phone in the game that not only allows for you to teleport across the lands but allows for you to get the orders of your new friends in “heaven”. The game and the music for the game is relaxing and before you know it you would have been playing for a while. The game is best enjoyed with headphones for a better relaxing experience.

As stated before there are many games that are available for mobile, and during a time like this, I figured a list of games that could help pass the time, or even maybe get you into mobile gaming if you’re not a big fan of mobile gaming might be useful. Of course, there are other games such as Dragon Quest, Sega Genesis Games, and even other triple A titles, but that is a list for another day. I hope that you find enjoyment out of the games on this list, as I have in my time of discovering them and writing this article.

By Ready Sets Gaming

Ready Sets Gaming is a variety streamer on Twitch with a love and passion for indie games. She has been gaming for 30+ years; and feels that a lot of indie games go back to the games that she grew up with and aren't afraid to think outside of the box to make a game. It is because of this thought process that she prefers to play a majority of indie titles, but still likes to play Triple-A titles and Retro games too. She enjoys searching through itch.io platform and looking for games that are stream friendly, and then playing them on stream to get them the exposure they may not be getting. Some of her favorite game genres include Platformers, Puzzlers, Role-Playing and she's recently developed a loved for Shmups.
